Mary-Kate Olsen’s engagement ring

Congratulations to Mary-Kate Olsen! She was spotted yesterday with twin sister Ashley, wearing a brand new engagement ring. As soon as we heard that Olivier Sarkozy had proposed, we knew the ring would be a unique choice. Olsen, who designs for The Row, Elizabeth & James, and other lines with her sister, has opted for a round-cut diamond in a halo. While this has been a popular style for the past few years, a heavy yellow-gold setting with triple band and oversized halo sets Mary-Kate’s ring apart.

This will be Mary-Kate’s first marriage and Sarkozy’s second. The banker was married to French fashion journalist Charlotte Bernard, from 1997 to 2011. He began a relationship with Mary-Kate in 2012. He is the half-brother of former French president, Nicolas Sarkozy. It has been reported that Olivier proposed to the fashion designer while they were vacationing in Jamaica, earlier this year.

What do you think of Mary-Kate’s engagement ring? Do you agree that yellow gold is making a fashionable return?

Update: Head over to Sotheby’s for more details about this stunning one of a kind ring, featuring an Old European cut diamond surrounded by sapphires.
