Last night’s Academy Awards were a feast for the jewelry-obsessed eyes. From pearls to emeralds, turquoise to sapphires, everywhere one looked there was vibrant color and exquisite sparkle. Here are the most stunning jewelry looks from the 2015 Oscars.
Obviously, we have to start with Lupita Nyong’o in this Calivin-Klein pearl-embellished gown. Still a relative newcomer to the red carpet, we have never seen her looking anything less than fabulous. She takes risks, she has fun, and she’s never predictable. For jewelry lovers, this has to be one of Lupita’s all-time show-stopping looks. She arrived wearing 6,000 pearls, along with diamond drop earrings and rings by Chopard. The halter-neck and key-hole cut bring an edge that offsets the conservative connotations that pearls can often have.
With her sheer and chic black Saint Laurent gown, and a new blunt bob, Margot Robbie was sure to turn heads. It wasn’t until we caught a glimpse of her tassel necklace, however, that we realized this was an iconic jewelry look. When asked about the Van Cleef & Arpels antique on the red carpet, Margot said that it had been originally designed for Wallis Simpson in the 1930s!
In a fitted green Atelier Versace gown with plunging neckline, Scarlett Johansson opted for yet more green – in the form of a stunning statement necklace and Piaget emerald ear cuff, set in rose gold with tourmaline and aquamarine stones.
How to get away with Murder star, Viola Davis, arrived in an off-the-shoulder gown by Zac Posen, paired with a dark berry lip. A graduated statement necklace, dripping in diamonds and pearls, was the perfect finish.
Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson was radiant in a yellow Romona Keveza dress, but it was her emerald drop earrings by Lorraine Schwartz that brought a winning edge to this look. We like to think that they brought Elizabeth Taylor’s glamorous spirit to this year’s ceremony – and with Hudson’s pixie cut, they could be seen from all angles.
We’d heard early in the evening that Anna Kendrick would be arriving in a gorgeous custom Thakoon creation, and we weren’t disappointed. With a jeweled neckline and coral color, it was elegant and glamorous in equal measures. Norman Silverman diamond jewelry and soft blush makeup were classic choices.
Cate Blanchett is almost always a red carpet favorite of ours. In John Galliano for Maison Margiela, her look was simple and understated – all to draw the eyes to her incredible bib necklace. With turquoise, aquamarine and diamonds, the handcrafted Tiffany & Co. necklace was one of the most unforgettable jewelry choices of the night. The Blue Jasmine star opted for simple makeup and a stylish up-do; again, presumably, to highlight the neckline.
