This is the latest installment in our blog series called ‘Why I work at Ritani’. With teams in New York and Seattle, we aim to highlight the passionate and talented people who are improving the ways customers shop for luxury jewelry and engagement rings.
Today, we’d like to introduce Sarah Rich, who works at our Downtown Seattle location.
Please describe your role at Ritani.
I work on our marketing team here at Ritani. My primary responsibility is to manage our email marketing program, but I also get to work on some of our other website and marketing initiatives.
To get an email out each day requires a lot of behind the scenes work. I first come up with the email concept then start to work on the copy and product/image selection. I am fortunate to work with an amazing team that includes a copywriter and designer to bring the concept to life. Once we have a final proof, I create the html code and begin the email deployment. After the email is sent, I do a lot of work reviewing how the email performed so we can optimize our next campaign to make sure we are providing our customers with the content they enjoy.
Do you have a daily routine?
Every day is a little bit different, but that keeps work interesting and fun! On a given day I could be brainstorming the concept for our next email, curating a new landing page, building html, analyzing data, working with our development team to create a new feature on the website or developing a strategy for a future campaign. I really enjoy having variety in my days and weeks and find it fun to be able to work on each email from concept to completion and beyond.
What is your favorite thing about working here?
I really enjoy our team. It is a great group of really nice and incredibly smart people and I have a lot of fun coming to work each day.
Do you have a favorite Ritani style?
I really do have a great job – I get to ogle over beautiful jewelry all day! I don’t think I can narrow it down to just one style, but here are my top 5. Some of these I have been fortunate enough to try on and they are amazing!
How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
Living in Seattle, there are so many fun things to do after work. My husband Jaremy and I really enjoy all of the amazing restaurants and the great breweries in the area – including some where we can take our dog Darwin. We also enjoy taking Darwin to the many amazing dog parks in the area. And one of my most favorite weekend activities is playing on a kickball team with our friends.
Is there anything your coworkers might be surprised to learn about you?
I think my co-workers would probably be surprised to know that I majored in geology in college and taught high school earth science before transitioning to the business world. That background explains my interest in diamonds and gemstones.
What advice would you give to someone just starting a career in jewelry & e-commerce?
I think the advice I would give to someone starting out at an e-commerce company (especially in a marketing role) is to get to know the software developers’ side of the house. It will greatly help you professionally to understand how things function and the vocabulary that goes with it so you can have a productive and collaborative relationship across teams.
