Princess cut diamonds in the 1.5 carat range are a popular choice for engagement rings. Often, customers who want to maximize sparkle will choose a higher quality cut, in lieu of a large carat size, within their budget. Princess shaped diamonds also work exceptionally well in custom jewelry, such as stud earrings and solitaire pendants. All Ritani diamonds are certified by either the AGS or GIA – the two most respected independent grading labs in the world.
A diamond's carat weight is a reflection of its size. 1 carat is equivalent to 200 milligrams. To best reflect its size, however, a diamond should also have a quality cut grade. Popular carat sizes near 1.5 carats include: 1.40, 1.43, and 1.47. For the best value, we suggest considering a carat weight slightly lower than you planned for. What you save in this carat weight, you can use to upgrade in cut – dramatically improving the sparkle.
1.5 carat diamonds are available in a range of colors, from D (Colorless) to Z (Light Yellow). At Ritani, we only carry diamonds with grades from D to L, so that you can easily find a diamond of great quality. Colorless diamonds are stunning in platinum and 18k white gold, to best highlight this lack of color. They are also the most rare of the grades, and as such, more expensive. If you are planning to set your diamond in yellow gold, we suggest a Near Colorless diamond, such as an H or I. If you are concerned about any color, a yellow gold setting will make this undetectable to the naked eye.
A cut grade indicates how much sparkle a diamond will produce, due to its proportions and symmetry. While princess cut diamonds are known for their brilliance, some will therefore sparkle greater than others. Depending on the length to width ratio, a princess cut diamond can be more square or rectangular - so be clear with your preference. Cut grades range from Reserve Ideal to Poor, but at Ritani, we only carry diamonds with cut grades from Ideal to Good. You can rest assured that your princess cut Ritani diamond is cut to sparkle. If you are considering a 1.5 carat princess cut diamond, seek those with quality cut grades, such as Ideal and Very Good. This will ensure that your diamond sparkles beautifully, and its sides are symmetrical.
A diamond's clarity grade – determined by a gemologist – is based on the presence of any internal inclusions. Diamonds with the highest clarity grades – FL (Flawless) or IF (Internally Flawless) – are remarkable to see. SI1 and SI2 (Slightly Included) grades indicate that there are some inclusions within the diamond. However, these are typically invisible without magnification. This makes these grades a wise choice if you are trying to balance your budget for a larger carat size, or greater color grade.
A princess cut diamond balances sparkle with a modern design. The number of facets will vary depending on the cut of the pavilion, but all will have incredible sparkle.
The culet is the point at the bottom of the diamond. Sometimes this point has a small facet (a flat spot on the end) which can detract from the beauty of a round diamond, but can add to the beauty of some fancy shapes.
The table is the largest facet of the diamond. One of the key factors to determining a diamond’s grade of cut is the ratio of the table diameter to the diameter of the diamond.
Depth is the measurement of the diamond from the culet through the center of the diamond to the table
This is the edge of the diamond typically held by the setting.
