Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton’s marriage was full of ups and downs – but it was also full of lavish diamonds. One of the most famous diamonds of all time is the Taylor-Burton diamond, a 69.42-carat pear-shaped diamond. At the time in 1969, the ring cost $1.1 million. Today, that would be over 7 million dollars.  

Burton purchased the ring, which was crafted by Cartier, due to a fight the couple got in. Over dinner at a restaurant, Burton criticized how large and unattractive her hands were. Taylor fought back, saying he should buy her a 69-carat diamond to make her hands look smaller and prettier. And that's how Taylor got this giant gem.

Later, the ring was redesigned into a necklace, as Taylor (understandably) felt it was too heavy to wear on her finger. The necklace was designed to cover her tracheotomy scar, which was the result of a serious case of pneumonia.

Two months after the proposal, Hilton’s ring slipped off her finger at a club in Miami. After a frantic search, security found her ice in a bucket of ice and the ring was returned to her.  Unfortunately, Hilton and Zylka called off their engagement. Hilton reportedly kept the ring.

It features a 3-carat pear-cut diamond set next to a 2-carat princess-cut diamond on a plain yellow gold band. “We loved the idea of the femininity of the pear contrasted with the architecture of the princess,” the model said. Ratajkowski's ring is estimated to have cost between $50,000 to $90,000. The couple even handcrafted their own wedding bands with a piece of gold that they purchased in Chinatown.
