Our nation's capital is full of romantic and exciting places to pop the question. With nearly 25 million visitors per year, there’s something here for everyone. Here are 6 of the best places to propose in D.C. 

The Tidal Basin

The Tidal Basin is known for its scenic views of the Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument. This serene location is beautiful at any time of year, but especially in the spring when the cherry blossoms that surround the reservoir are in bloom.

Typically, the best time to see the cherry blossoms is in the last week of March and the first week of April, but it varies each year. This website provides a cherry blossom forecast each year, so be sure to check it out in order to time your proposal perfectly.  

Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting pool is an iconic destination and a beautiful place to get down on one knee. The pool, which is over 2,000 feet long and 167 feet wide, reflects both the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. Go at sunset for the most spectacular scenery.

If you are looking for a quieter place outside of the bustling city to pop the question, this is it. This urban oasis is located in the heart of D.C. Hike, pack a picnic, enjoy a trail ride on horseback, or visit historical landmarks, like the Pierce Mill. 

U.S. National Arboretum

This 446-acre outdoor museum is free to enter and is full of sights to see. Popular destinations within the arboretum include the National Capitol Columns, which contain columns that were once a part of the U.S. Capitol, and the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum, which contains horticultural art from both China and Japan.  

If you wish to capture your engagement with a professional photographer, make sure you have a permit.

This tranquil and picturesque 180-acre public garden is free to enter. Explore the sculpture garden, rose garden, and take in the butterflies. It’s the perfect escape from the city and is the perfect backdrop for a magical proposal.

This award-winning rooftop restaurant and bar is located on top of the Watergate Hotel and has stunning views of the Potomac River, Washington Monument, and D.C. skyline. It closes mid-October and reopens in April, so be sure to check their website (and make a reservation!) before going.
