Top Places to Propose in NJ

While New Jersey isn’t exactly the biggest state, it’s certainly full of exciting and romantic places to propose. Take it from someone who grew up there – here are 7 of the top places to propose in NJ.

Jersey City’s Waterfront

One of the best things about New Jersey is that it is so close to New York City. Jersey City’s waterfront offers spectacular views of Manhattan and the Hudson River. Some even think it has a better view of Manhattan than the view from Brooklyn. It’s a truly romantic and Insta-worthy place to pop the question, especially at sunset. Afterward, celebrate with drinks at Smorgasbar, a waterfront beer garden with views of Lower Manhattan.

And best of all, doggos are welcome. Just note that the beer garden is closed in the winter.

RoofTop at Exchange Place

Another Jersey City gem – this classy rooftop lounge is a breathtaking place to pop the question. Enjoy views of NYC, tasty bites, expertly crafted cocktails, and the new engagement ring on your future spouse’s finger. You won’t have to worry about bad weather as the bar has a retractable glass roof. The bar gets busy on the weekends, so make a reservation here.

Tip: Do not wear sneakers. The bouncers won’t let you in. I know this from personal experience.

Liberty House Restaurant

I promise this is the last spot in Jersey City that I have to share. Liberty House Restaurant is a massive American eatery that also doubles as a wedding venue. You’ll have phenomenal views of Lower Manhattan while you dine, and you can explore their backyard space. If you’d like, you can also reserve a cabana on their patio to have your own private space.

Asbury Park Boardwalk

There’s no place like the Jersey shore. Really, any boardwalk is a great place to propose, but there’s just something so iconic about Asbury Park’s boardwalk. Don't forget to check out the cool murals in the area.

Lavallette Gazebo

If you’re looking for a quiet, more secluded place to propose down the shore, this is it. The gazebo is located in Jacobsen Park and you’ll get excellent views of the peaceful bay.

Barnegat Lighthouse

This iconic red and white lighthouse is the perfect place to get down on one knee with a diamond ring. There’s a $3 fee to enter the lighthouse. Visitors must climb 217 steps to get to the top of the lighthouse, which offers panoramic views of the bay.

New Jersey Botanical Gardens

This serene 96-acre garden is in Ringwood State Park and is a popular place for both proposals and engagement photoshoots. Admission is free, however, there is a parking fee if you drive there. If you are hiring a photographer to capture the special moment, you’ll need to get a permit – learn more on their website.
